Our Research

What is the research study about?

The research will look at adolescent social media use and its potential impact on wellbeing before and after the new age restrictions come into effect.

Who can take part in the research?

We are inviting parents or guardians and their child, aged 12-17 years, to take part together. Participants can live anywhere in Australia.

What does the study involve?

1. Screening

Parent screening (5 minutes): This can be completed online or via phone to check eligibility and provide consent.

Adolescent screening (5 minutes): A research assistant will contact your child by phone, text, or email to confirm eligibility and willingness to participate.

2. Surveys

Parent surveys (5-10 minutes each): You will be asked to complete two surveys, either online or via phone after the screening process, and at approximately 3-months after the social media age restrictions start.

Adolescent surveys (5-10 minutes each): Your child will be asked to complete three surveys, either online or via phone after the screening process (described above), 3-months after the restrictions start, and again at 12 months.

Parents and adolescents will both receive a $20 e-gift card after completing each survey.
